Cheap artificial greenery
Plastic, usually moulded, coloured and assembled into a branch or a sheet. It was never a plant. You recognise it because every leaf matches the one before it, by a sheen that foliage does not have, and by the way the colour goes in a single season in the sun. It is cheap, and for one purpose it is perfectly fine: where nobody comes closer than three metres.
Decorative greenery
Artificial greenery of the highest finish, so true to life that up close you have to touch the plant to tell whether it is real. It is never watered, has no soil and no repotting, does not grow and needs no light, and it looks the same in January as in August.
This is what we work with alongside moss, and we call it decorative so that it is not confused with the first kind. It is ordered precisely so that a guest comes close and does not realise.
Preserved moss
Real moss, harvested, cleaned and preserved, so it keeps its colour and softness and stops growing. Reindeer moss takes colour, which is why logos and lettering are made from it. Bun moss gives relief. Flat moss covers large surfaces. Pure moss is the finest and densest of the four.
Moss and decorative plants complement each other in the same room: moss holds the surface of the wall, a plant gives height and line. That is why one alone is rarely ordered.
Which of these to ask for
If many people pass through the room and all of them come close, cheap plastic will show. If the wall stands in a corridor without windows, moss solves both that and the acoustics. If you need height, a branch or a bed, decorative greenery comes in. Either way, ask to see a sample up close before ordering, because in a photograph all three look the same.
